It's time to RACE FOR THE CURE!

It's that time of year again.... when I drag Troy (don't worry, he actually LOVES it once we get there) to all sorts of cancer walks, fundraisers, etc. It's such a great way to take advantage of the gorgeous spring weather! And help some VERY good causes at the same time!

So.... on May 10th, we are Racing for the Cure!

Cancer is a disease that I think has affected every person I know in one way or another.... so let's fight it! Let's get rid of it! Why not start with fighting breast cancer on May 10th?

Hooray for my new Harmons!!

Ok… can I just tell you how excited I am for the new Harmon’s grocery store that just went in near my home?!?! It opened today and I am just so happy, that I can hardly stand it! Not only has it been a bit of a pain having the closest grocery store two freeway exits away, it has been so sad for me to be so far away from my favorite grocery store… Harmons! I actually haven’t lived very close to a Harmons for several years and I have missed it terribly…. Their stores are clean, well organized and the prices are good too. Most importantly though… they just carry exactly what I am looking for when I go to the store…. Fresh, good quality fruits and veggies, gourmet cheeses, fresh yummy breads, dried fruit, freshly roasted and/or chopped nuts….. and they even carry chicken that is already trimmed and ready to just throw in the pan or on the grill… I LOVE that!! And their staff members are helpful and polite.. I really like that too!! So… I know it’s a little weird to be so excited for a grocery store… but I have seriously been counting the days since they announced the new location!

Cooking in the future will be so much more enjoyable because of my new conveniently located store! Yeah!!!

And I am very much looking forward to the first concert of the year up at Deer Valley… I always have fun packing our picnic dinners, but the new store and their HUGE Gourmet Cheese section will make it so much easier!

Maybe while I am shopping, I will stop in at the Gelato bar and have myself a treat! Yeah!!

Congrats Mom!

First off--- Congratulations to Mom on a VERY successful art sale! I am so very glad that it went so well! Although, I have to admit, it’s a little weird knowing that strangers have my mother’s paintings hanging in their houses… it makes me very proud of you too! Congratulations! I wish I had been there to enjoy the cookies too!

Troy and I had a fun weekend…. Friday we went out to dinner and then to a movie. While for some that is a very normal date, I think that this was only the second or maybe third time that Troy and I have done that, in our more than 2 years together… Haha! We rent movies from time to time and make dinner at home… but we very rarely go out to movies, and if we do, it usually seems to be a matinée to avoid the summer heat.

Anyway… I have been very excited for The Forbidden Kingdom to come out and we thought it would be a good idea to use our Christmas Gift Card from Tina and Darren (Thanks!!!). For those that are not familiar with The Forbidden Kingdom… it stars both Jackie Chan and Jet Li, so how could I resist?!!?!? And for those that don’t know who Jackie Chan and Jet Li are…. Well, that’s just very sad! Haha! They are both amazing martial artists and are so entertaining to watch on screen! Their techniques are so fluid and smooth that it almost makes it look it easy to do tornado kicks or double flying side kicks but let me tell you… neither of those things is easy to do! Not even close! Anyway… Troy and I both loved the movie and are anxious to go see it again!

Saturday night we went to the Carmina Burana concert, as I mentioned before…. Which was EXCELLENT! And as a bonus, before the concert we ended up meeting Troy’s sister Tamara for dinner at one of our favorite places – Café Molise. The food and company were both excellent! We all had a lovely time!

Troy and Tamara both have far more critical ears for the music than I do, and while they had some complaints about the choir... they both very much enjoyed the show. I thought the whole thing was excellent... I especially loved the voice of the baritone soloist. He was awesome, even with a sore throat!

Now I just have to get through a few days of work so that I can run off and play with Elliott for a whole weekend!! Yeah!!

P.S. Don't worry Carly... there are plenty of things that I like to eat besides cheetos and cheese. Haha! How does Elli feel about fruit? I love strawberries, apples, grapes, apricots, oranges, pineapple, cherries and maybe a banana here and there. I also like carrots as a snack? And dried apricots, mangoes, or cherries are always yummy too! Can Elli eat nuts? Trail mix is something I enjoy as well... CostCo has a yummy organic one that I love, at least the one by me does. :) And how about pasta? or rice? Always easy to add sauce and/or veggies? And if none of the above works... cereal and toast will be great! :)

One last birthday party…

At work today we had a little party to celebrate the April Birthdays, so I got to celebrate one more time! :) We even had birthday cake for breakfast… Troy’s favorite – German Chocolate… too bad he wasn’t here to enjoy it! I THINK my birthday is officially over now…. But, we’ll see. Haha!

Feeling Home Sick Today...

I love living so close to Troy’s family and getting to spend so much time with them….. but some days I just really miss my family too! However, I am so thankful for things like phone calls, texts, emails and blogs that make me feel like I am not so very far away.

The other day Troy and I got to talk to Trevor on the phone and it was so great! We put him on speaker phone as we were driving and got to hear his very enthusiastic alphabet song at least 3 times, and he also counted for us…. Very impressive counting, Trev! Trevor even told me Happy Birthday – it was great!

Troy always laughs so hard at me whenever I am on the phone (or get a voicemail or text message, for that matter) with Trevor, Elliott or Madde because I get this big silly grin on my face and usually end up crying from laughing so hard. I obviously need some phone calls from Luke, Hunter, Ava and Ameya too! Haha!

Can’t wait to see everyone next week…. Well, those that will be in town! It will be weird to be there without Mom, Dad, Carly or Craig! Haha!

Anyway… last night we went to Ririe Woodbury’s show – REWIND. It was a lovely evening, and while I enjoy all of our RWDC shows, I am far more relaxed today knowing that the season is over and I get a little break from my Board Member duties. :) The show was great… a little darker and edgier than some of our other shows but it was really entertaining. I am always amazed at the strength and athleticism of our dancers, and last night was no exception.

This weekend we are going to the Utah Symphony’s Carmina Burana concert and we are very excited! It’s such an energetic and fun piece, that it is always a crowd pleaser. The Utah Symphony Chorus will be there singing, as well, which always adds an extra fun element to the evening. Can’t wait!

Oliver is a HOT DOG!

Oliver is Troy's cousin Jim's new little boy... For those that don't know, Jim is also an old friend of mine from my ad agency days at DSW. I have known Jim since about 1996 probably.. haha! Anyway... as they say "It's a small world!"

Troy and I sent Jim, Carrie and Oliver a cute little onsie that has an adorable little dog, and the word HOT above it. :) It totally made us laugh it was so cute! They had a whole bunch... "biker chick" was another favorite, but that wouldn't exactly work for Oliver. Haha! Oliver is such a cutie! Birthday Part 4…

Yeah… Shelly pointed out that Saturday was actually my 4^th celebration since I had the Hickman Family dinner last week, my play day Tuesday, lunch with a girlfriend (Thanks Erica!) on Friday, and then my hot date on Saturday! Still, the celebration was shorter than my usual month… haha!

So anyway, the Birthday Celebration, Part 4, was great fun! We went out to dinner at a cute little café called the TIN ANGEL and it was YUMMY! For my birthday present Troy gave me the season tickets for Desert Star Playhouse that I have been wanting… I can’t wait to go to the next play!! I love my present… gracias, mi amorcito!

After dinner we headed over to Ballet West’s “Nine Sinatra Songs” (Annual show that they used to call “Evening of Ballets” where they do a variety of pieces from different shows, variety of music, etc.) It was soooo great! We both loved the show and have been telling all our local friends and family to go see it before it closes this next weekend. Troy’s favorite piece was “Hamlet and Ophelia”, which I also loved. My favorite was the “Nine Sinatra Songs”, mostly because I am a sucker for Frank Sinatra, but the dancing was great too! It was interesting to see ball-room style dancing mixed with some contemporary ballet… at least that’s how I would describe it. It was very fun!

After the Ballet was the Studio-D After-Party at Café Molise. We mostly hung out with Mark (one of my grad school buddies) and Liberty (one of the Ririe-Woodbury Alumni Dancers) and had a wonderful time! They are both so fun, and we love hanging out with them! It was great to see all our other friends too!!

Mark has also been bugging us at every chance to put our wedding date “in pen” so that he can make sure he isn’t out of the country… Haha… I know, I know - it’s a familiar topic with both sides of the family as well! Haha! So, no this is not an official announcement but - we are working on getting all the paperwork done that we need for the temple sealing, and are still hoping to have it all done in time for us to have a fall wedding… So, keep your fingers crossed for us that the timing will work out!

Of course, the Stake President said that a wedding in Italy sounds more fun to him, and since he plans to come, he may purposely hold up the papers… Haha! Troy has been friends with him for many, many years, and he is a really great guy. And of course I really like him too because he always tells Troy what a great girl I am! :)

Anyway… yesterday afternoon we headed off to Troy’s Great-Uncle Victor’s Birthday Party. It was nice to meet a few of Colleen’s extended family members that I hadn’t met yet, and to see the others all again. And, despite the cold windy weather at the park, it was fun to help Victor usher in his 87^th year!

As for the car…. I caved in and got it fixed. Troy and I are both hoping that the car will make it until the end of the year without having any more expensive repairs. By that time, Troy will be done with school, and we will hopefully have a better idea of whether we are staying in Salt Lake for awhile longer, or if we are moving to a new city... So, hopefully the car will cooperate with our plan!!

P.S. I mentioned our new photo wall a few weeks ago... here is what it looks like so far. It's a little lopsided at the moment, but we are doing a photo shoot with Maika and Aleusha soon, and hope to get some good shots to add to the wall from that. :)

My Birthday has been postponed! Haha!

On Tuesday, my birthday started out quite nicely…. I slept in, dropped my car off at the shop for a routine oil change and to check out why it was shaking a bit at about 55mph. Then I met up with Troy for a yummy brunch (and what meal isn’t great when you get bacon, avocado and cheese?!?!) and after that we headed to the driving range to meet up with Darren. The golf shoes that Troy gave me for Christmas finally came out of the box and they were GREAT! See silly photos below…

After the driving range, Troy and I headed to the mall to do a little shopping, and just goof off for a bit. We were having a lovely time, AND THEN it happened….. my car, that I stupidly love so much, decided to cost me ANOTHER small fortune to fix! Ouch!

Anyway… The rest of the day was spent looking at cars and trying to decide whether to fix the one I have, get a new one, drive the old one off a cliff or into a brick wall, etc. etc. And all the while they were telling me that my car wasn’t safe to drive and wouldn’t give it to me to drive home that night, yet they didn’t have any loaner cars either… oh the joy!

Needless to say, the rest of our plans got put on hold and I have officially moved the second half of my birthday to Saturday…. Feel free to call and sing to me again! Haha! We are going to the Ballet (which I am VERY excited for) and have decided to go out for a nice dinner that night instead. And Troy decided I had to wait until then for my present too…. The silly boy! So, I don’t know yet what I am getting from him… but I am sure I will love it… I always do! :)

So anyway…. Thank you to all those that called, emailed and sent text messages for the first installment of my BDay! It was a great first half to the day!! :) Thanks Mom and Dad for the “Fit Flops” and the adorable SHADE shirts! I love them all! In fact… I am wearing one of the purple shirts today and it looks pretty darn cute, if I do say so myself! :) Haha!

Birthday Humor...

I just thought this was too funny… and so appropriate since I am recently another year older…. Haha! (Sandy - it was on Tuesday)

I am seeing 5 gentlemen every single day! That's right! FIVE!!!!

As soon as I wake up, Will Power helps me get out of bed.

Then I go see John. Sometime this is a rush visit.

Then Charlie Horse comes along & when he's here, he takes a lot of my time & attention!

When he leaves, Arthur Ritis shows up & stays the rest of the day He doesn't like to stay in one place very long so he takes me from joint to joint.

After such a busy day, I'm really tired & glad to go to bed with Ben Gay.

What a life! Oh and I've been flirting with Al Zymer

Birthday Celebration, part 1 :)

What a fun birthday party I had on Sunday evening! Troy’s Mom made me the most delicious dinner, and the whole family (well… all those in Salt Lake… we missed the Idaho group!) came over to spoil me with presents! It was so much fun! :)

And a special thank you to Colleen for making 2 very time consuming dishes… they were both so yummy! And the “funeral potatoes” were well worth the wait! Especially since we got two versions! (Thanks Tina!) And of course the yummy cheesecake! I do love cheesecake!

I LOVE all my presents! Sherri, Tommy and TJ gave me a gorgeous watch that I can’t wait to wear! Colleen is giving me a pair of Opera Glasses that I am very much looking forward to using at Don Giovanni next month! Yeah! Tina, Darren and Avery gave me a gift certificate for Sports Authority! I can’t wait to go on a shopping spree! And Robert gave me a very cool Michael Angelo book! And I gave myself an adorable new pair of orange wedge sandals! Haha! Troy is making me wait until Tuesday for my present… no fair!

Thank you to all the Hickman Clan for making me feel so very loved!

Tomorrow Troy and I are both playing hooky from work and we are going to goof off all day! I can’t wait! Birthdays are so fun! I am going to sleep in! Maybe go to the driving range (if the beautiful weather stays long enough!) Maybe a matinee movie…. I wish Kung Fu Panda was out! Haha! Basically we plan to do nothing productive and PLAY ALL DAY! Yeah!

I got home last night to find a package waiting for me..... it didn't say "do not open until your birthday"... so I may have peaked... Haha! Birthdays are fun! Even when you have decided that you aren't going to get any older... I have turned 32 for 5 years now and its just great! :)

If so, how do they compare to other brands like SHADE in terms of fit? Do they last? Is the quality good? Etc?

They have some really cute stuff, and I am thinking I should try a few things out. :)

Adopt a Room

Join The Big Give, Heart 2 Home, Utah Foster Care Foundation, the SKIDS Foundation and Channel 4 in helping improve the lives of a foster family in Orem!

The Thill Family in Orem have opened their home to 32 foster children over the years and currently have 14 adopted children living in their home... plus their 2 biological children. Needless to say, space and money are very limited!

Heart 2 Home is working to give this family's kitchen a much needed makeover, but we need your help too to make this project complete! We are looking for sponsors to "adopt a room"!

If you have a group of friends or family members that would be willing to contribute to the makeover of an "adopted room", please let us know! If you work for a company that you think would be willing to "adopt a room" to decorate, please let us know! These rooms are small and are shared by a handful of children each, but the rooms are also very much in need of some new linens, decor, furniture, etc.

This family has done so much to help others.... let's show them that we care and make this home a better, more comfortable place for this great family!

Please let me know if you can help! We need all the help we can get and IT ALL HAS TO BE DONE BY FRIDAY!!!!

Good Friends...

We were also lucky enough this past weekend to have some time to hang out with Michelle and Rob - always a wonderful time! Even if we did have to venture into Provo to do it, we still loved it! Haha! But seriously, how could an evening of Training Table and Cold Stone not be awesome?!?!

Not sure why Rob looks like a deer in headlights here... haha... I don't think he wanted his photo taken. :) I know this will sound silly, but I am so thankful that Troy gets along so well with one of my oldest and dearest friends, and that we both get along so well with Rob too! It's really quite hard to find "couples" to hang out with, where everyone gets along, you have common interests, etc. It's been so fun for me to watch Troy get to know Michelle and Rob, and I am loving every minute of it! Now... if we only lived closer!!

And we can't wait to meet the puppy on our next trip!!

Fun Family-filled weekend...

We had such a great time with Troy's whole family this weekend... we played games, watched "Top Gear", went to Temple Square for conference, sat around talking and seemed to eat a ton of food. It is always so fun when everyone is in town and this weekend was no exception. The kids are all so fun and silly... and it is great to just relax and talk with everyone. Unless of course Tanya and Troy get into a heated "debate"... haha!

Seriously though, the only bad part... it makes me miss my side of the family even more! Good thing I get to see at least part of the family in a few weeks!

Anyway, here is Daniel sporting a fabulous outfit that needs no explaining... well, it may "need" it, but I just don't know what to say. Haha! He was such a good sport letting me take his picture.. thanks Bud! :)And here are the girls playing dress up... you can't really tell in this photo but Sarah has on a full veil, formal dress and gloves. Quite fancy compared to the dress up clothes that we used to have. Haha! I guess that's what happens when your Grandma owns a formal dress shop.

In Loving Memory..

The funeral was really a very nice service, and Troy and I both enjoyed seeing all of the family members. Colleen's talk was wonderful and I think she paid very good tribute to her father and his wishes to have her speak. Her brother Jerry also gave a great talk, and we all learned some new things about Grandpa. I can't recall who said this, but here is my favorite quote from the day...
"We should not pray for our burdens to be lifted, but instead we should ask that our backs be strengthened so that we are better able to bear our burdens."

It's hard for us to believe that neither of us have any Grandparents left on this earth, but we are thankful for the time we had with them throughout our lives. While it seems that it wasn't nearly long enough, we both have some fun and fond memories of our grandparents. We will try to pass those memories and stories on.

I know that nobody is as fixated on shoes as I am, but I was so excited about how perfect these shoes went with my dress that I have to share. :) They are red at the front and purple at the back and are the perfect shades to go with my red and purple dress! Yeah! (Thanks Troy for going to soooo many stores with me! XOXO)

Anyway.... here are Erica and I at the party. She is a good friend of mine and is always willing to volunteer at whatever event I have going on - Thank you! She is also one of the most generous people I know... always making little treats for everyone at each and every holiday! Always willing to donate items for auction, etc.... Erica, you are the BEST! You rock, girl! Thanks again!

He will be greatly missed...

As many of you know, Troy's Grandfather passed away last Friday. We will all miss him very much, but are thankful that he has been united with his wife, Heavenly Father and those that passed before him.
At times like this, I am grateful for my testimony of Eternal Families, and I know that Troy and I both look forward to being with our family members again.

Lorin W. Hansen

Lorin W. Hansen 1921 ~ 2008 Lorin William Hansen, husband, father, grandfather and great-grand-father, age 87, of Midway, Utah passed away March 28, 2008 of natural causes. Lorin was born at the family farm in Sandy, Utah March 9, 1921. He was the son of William Andrew Hansen and Leona Smith Hansen. Lorin graduated from Jordan High in 1939 where he was the class valedictorian. He later graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in accounting. During World War II he worked as a cost accountant with the U.S. Corp. of Engineers. Later he worked as a sales accountant with the Utah Oil Co. as office manager and as an auditor with Western Optical. The last 26 years of his career he served in various supervisory and managerial positions in the controllers department at Unisys. He retired in 1985. Lorin loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing and in later years he became enthused with golf and proudly displayed his hole in one trophy. Lorin was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints where he served as ward clerk and counselor in the bishopric of the Murray Third Ward. He also served as financial clerk in the Murray Stake. For many years he was active in the Murray Lions Club and among other offices served as president and cabinet secretary. He married Wanda Wathen on his 21st birthday March 9, 1942, later divorced. He married Anna J. Mollerup, August 13, 1956 in the Salt Lake Temple, sealed by President Harold B. Lee. He is survived by his children, Colleen Hickman, Sandy; Jerry L. Hansen (Colleen), Sandy; Bonnie Kerns (Tony), West Jordan; Rex Hansen (Sandy), Midway; Wayne Hansen (Trudy), Centerville; M. James Mollerup (Diane), Salt Lake City; Joseph A. Mollerup (Leeann) West Jordan; 25 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Anna, his parents, his brother Jay Smith Hansen, and son-in-law Thomas L Hickman. Funeral services will be held Fri., April 4, 2008 at 12 noon at the Northridge Ward, 11196 S. Wasatch Blvd, Sandy. Visitations will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thurs. evening at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S., Sandy, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Devastating News…

A little girl 7 yr old girl went missing on Monday here in Salt Lake…. Despite the best efforts of law enforcement, the community and many foundations, churches and organizations, she was found dead in an apartment not far from her home. Tragedies like this just make me sick, and I wish they would stop.

It is always inspiring, however, to see the community come together in times of need – and this family definitely needed everyone’s efforts, support and help yesterday.

Someone posted a sign near her home that really touched me. It read - You are never so lost that angels can't find you. I know in my heart that this little girl was watched over by angels and I pray that she did not suffer. I sincerely hope that her family is comforted by the fact that she is home with her Heavenly Father now.

flowers everywhere...

We had so many gorgeous flowers at the Cabaret… We decided to take a few bunches home. The flowers were all these gorgeous red (with little hints of orange) and white colors… my arrangements of course don’t do them justice!

And I don’t normally like daisies but the color of these is just so beautiful! I love them!
